"Serendipity" bezeichnet das zufällige Finden von etwas ursprünglich nicht Gesuchtem, das sich als neue, überraschende und fruchtbare Entdeckung erweist. Unter diesem Titel präsentiert die Kunsthalle Bielefeld den originalen Zettelkasten Niklas Luhmanns gemeinsam mit dem zeichnerischen Werk Ulrich Rückriems des letzten Jahres und den Arbeiten Jörg Sasses. Der Zettelkasten Niklas Luhmanns ist eine Ikone der Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften. Er ist die sichtbare Verkörperung der Systemtheorie Luhmanns und als solche das Scharnier der Gegenüberstellung der künstlerischen Positionen Ulrich Rückriems und Jörg Sasses. Sowohl Rückriem als auch Sasse beziehen sich auf systemische Kunstkonzepte, nach denen ihre jeweiligen Bildergebnisse scheinbar wie von selbst entstehen und gerade nur in ihrer Erscheinung als Serie und Variation ihren Sinn entfalten und darstellen.

Ab sofort ist der Eintritt in die ständige Sammlung im Museum Folkwang an allen Öffnungstagen frei. Dies gilt ebenso für alle Ausstellungen der Fotografischen Sammlung, des Deutschen Plakat Museums und der Grafischen Sammlung. Ermöglicht wird dies durch die großzügige Unterstützung der Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung. Es ist das erste Mal in Deutsch- land, dass ein Kunstmuseum von der Größe und Bedeutung des Museum Folkwang seine Pforten kostenlos für Besucher öffnen kann. Auch für die Dauer der Maßnahme — fünf Jahre — gibt es bisher keinen Präzedenzfall.
